Frequently Asked Questions
Are online sessions effective?
Research shows that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship issues.
Here are a few reasons why online therapy works well:
Accessibility: It removes barriers like travel time, transportation, and mobility issues.
Comfort: Many clients feel more at ease opening up from the comfort of their own home.
Consistency: It's often easier to stick to regular sessions when they're online.
Flexibility: Scheduling tends to be more convenient, making it easier to fit therapy into your life.
For instance, even the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), traditionally considered an in-person treatment, has shown effectiveness in virtual settings. A systematic review published in Frontiers in Psychiatry analyzed 16 studies involving 1,231 participants and found promising outcomes in reducing PTSD symptoms, anxiety, and depression through remote EMDR therapy.
In her 2021 article "Using EMDR Therapy to Treat Clients Remotely," published in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research, Naomi Fisher explores the adaptation of EMDR therapy for remote delivery, particularly in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings underscore the potential of online EMDR as an accessible and effective therapeutic option during times of limited in-person interaction.
How much does it cost?
Our pricing varies depending on what factors affect your price. We offer a variety of options to fit your needs and budget. Please visit our contact us for more information.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is all about getting to know you. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, your goals, and how we can support you. It's a relaxed and collaborative space—no pressure, just conversation.
How can I contact you?
You can reach us by phone number, email address, or through the contact form link. We are always happy to answer your questions.
How often will I need to attend sessions?
Most clients start with weekly sessions, but the frequency can vary. Together, we’ll find a rhythm that fits your goals, schedule, and comfort level.
How long does therapy typically last?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some clients see progress in a few months, while others continue longer for deeper work or ongoing support. We regularly check in to make sure therapy continues to meet your needs.
How do I know if therapy is working?
You might notice feeling more confident, calmer, or better able to handle challenges. You may be able to better navigate the unexpected triggers or situations that used to lead you to fall back into the dysfunctional behavioral responses. Therapy isn’t always a straight line, but growth often shows in small, meaningful changes over time. We’ll also check in together to reflect on progress.
How does virtual counseling work?
We meet through a secure video platform that you can access from your phone, tablet, or computer. You’ll receive a private link before each session—easy, convenient, and safe.
Will I (the parent) be involved in my child's sessions?
Yes, parent involvement is often a key part of progress. We’ll discuss what level of involvement makes sense for your child’s needs and development, and keep communication open along the way.
How do I support my child between sessions?
We’ll share tools, strategies, and check-ins to help you support your child outside of therapy. Your role is important, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur a fee. We understand life happens—just reach out if something comes up.
What if I need urgent help?
We are not a crisis service. If you or someone you love is in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can also contact 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If you reside outside of the United States, please call your country's crisis hotlines.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. What you share in session stays private, with a few exceptions related to safety (like harm to self or others). We’ll go over confidentiality in more detail in your first session.
Can I switch therapists if it doesn't feel like the right fit?
Absolutely. A strong therapeutic connection is important, and we fully support you in finding the best fit—even if that means helping you connect with someone else.
